I live in Canada as well and while we are somewhat protected as opposed to what happened down in teh states we are still affected.

I however live in the Windsor Ontario region which has seen MONUMENTAL job losses (thank you auto industry). Right now I am going to school, in my second last semester and will hopefully graduate in April. I plan on getting into computer networking , which thankfully seems to not be as affected.

As for rigth now I work at a grocery store part time so its not too bad. But My compnay has been going hard to cut hours and since I am not high on the list I have been affected. I went from close to 39 hours a week in September/October down too like 10 or 15 a week since November started.

So yeah, all I can say is, for the moment, stay away from Windsor and Detroit

Oh and Megafandrew, I know all about Suncor/Sunoco, I only put Sunoco gas in my Civic and they are one of Canada's top employers. When I graduate you want to get me a job there in IT?

Ill be checking out Saskatoon jobs and rentals stuff like that, if it gets bad enough for me here Ill move just to do work I can enjoy and make a decent dollar. They say Sask. will be the next Alberta type boom except the industry might be different. And good idea with the investing riceburner,. I plan on saving all the money I can and investing it, if you guys are seriously considering investing, I would recommend checking out Suncor shares. Its one of North America's largest oilsands reserves and is the largest in Canada/USA their shares can be say $25 one week and they WILL jump to highs of $110 (I worked there and seen it happen) website is www.suncor.com and the shares value is right on the front page. My dad has worked there almost 30 years now, he bought the shares when they were like 6/7 bucks a piece, he's got about 230,000 dollars worth of them now!
The cost of renting has doubled (nearly tripled) and so has housing. My familys house (my mom bought for 86000 4 years ago and was appraised at 226000 this summer. It's mainly because of out of province buyers investing in saskatchewan properties and renting /selling for higher prices. As of now, I make 40K a year from both jobs: delivering pizza and cabinetry. I'm damn lucky I only have to pay my mom 300$/month. Apartments rent out starting at 500$/month, I'm sure if you found a couple buddies who want to come along, you could all rent out a house and make smaller payments. lol

ya I would have to find a friend or two, also Fort McMurray where I was working, the wages are high, but the rent here for a 1 bdr. is upwards of 1500 a month, sick but true. Still that is high in Sask. and especially if the wages are higher, those are higher then alot of places in Calgary/Edmonton! O and Tiran I will do what I can lol (not very much probally) too get you a job, at the very least if you need a rent sharer I could be a possible candidate!

You Canadians have absolutly no room to complain. We are dealing with a ever shrinking job market, next to no health benefits, rising cost on everything from bread to houses, and the prospect that our nation is about to see 6+ million workers be out out on the street if GM does not make it. On top of that billions of our money is going for a war that a major majority of the population does not agree with and on top of that the world market is in no shape to spur growth and developement in the stock market.

Our country is dealing with a economy failure a fiskle crisis that has not been seen in over 80 years and in the end may be worse than what happened in the great depression. All the while our government is running around signing bills, giving loans, and enacting bailout programs at such an alarming rate that half of what they are doing is not noticed. Nevermind the fact that these quick fixes are more than likely going to be a major part of a much larger economic failure in the near future. Most of this countries working statistics are rediculous, blue collar workers anymore find it hard to get a job at more than $2 an hour over their states min. wage and when they do the job market is so over-saturated with other applicants that employers can treat you like complete $hit, work you untill they are supposed to give you benefits, then disgaurd you or cut your hours to part time so you cant get them. They dont care as there is 50 people waiting in line to take your job at any given moment.

"You Canadians have absolutly no room to complain" you sir don't know **** if you ask me then and this is an attitude that is causing some of your preoblems. Its fine that we have to pay more for our oil/gas even though we are extracting it and piping it to texas to provide some jobs, our dollar has been grossly under value for the past 30 years, our beef and lumber is banned because there is one outbreak of madcow but the States had many more then ours, lumber here was too cheap causing unfair marketing over the border ^^ hey someone voted bush into office twice that was a first major mess up "us" Canadians have every right to complain. Because your economy falls are's must go with it, your banks were handing out loans/low interest and mortgages like no tommorow, also we've been sending out oil down there since early 80's and get **** on when we have to pay the premium when it comes back. You think 4/5 bucks a U.S. gallon is expensive why don't you come here buddy and fill you tank up, not to mention the average house here costing $500,000 and upwards and 1 bdr. rent costing upwards of $1500, ever think thats why our wage is higher its compensating for the inflattion. Your comment is ignorant and you only focus on your countries problems, ever think that others have similar problems? Most of Canada has been in a slump the whole last 25 years or so, just like Tiran mentions Alberta is really what keeps us going I honestly think that you are ticked at me because of my signature comment lmao to you btw jobs are being lost here as well because of GM and an ever cooling housing/oil/construction economy. and if you think the healthcare here is so great you are so sadly mistaken, I have relatives that live in Phoenix, do you know anyone living up here? I thought we lived in the Artic in Igloos, we dont have heat or running water or anything like that? sounds like you have a tough life I like the USA and hope the best for it, but I don't like you very much but hope you manage to make it threw all right as well

^ Chill out man, you're acting like a child. Marty's comment is in no way derogatory or pointed at big ole YOU. He's pissed off just like everyone else in world by the way our governments are reacting to their own previous mess-ups. And if you're mad about some previous mundane comment on your stupid little picture, well then you need to get over it, it's the internet, don't get butt hurt over every little thing.

I was in noway directing that in the way it came off, where as your situations have **** because of outside influences our is directly ajointed to the ****ty government we have and will continue to have. Atleast your government cares enough to try and help you vs the world. I have not visited a doctor in over 9 years because I cant afford any kind of coverage. I'm 27 years old and feel like I'm 57, nevermind the fact that I started coughing up blood. See this is the kind of crap I'm talking about. Our government does not care about our general population.

*edit*

Focus on my countries problems??? Somebody has to ****ing do it because our country is to busy trying to help other people's countries out.

Im acting like a child because I point out Canada's problems just like Marty points out the US's problems in the same manner? no room to complain is a derogatory statement to all people who live here. lmao I didn't post up this thread anyways to get bitched out by either of you guy's I was seeing how others are dealing with their issues peraining to the economy so there was no need to come in and say Canada has no room to complain, not every Canadian cares about your troubles but I was interested in them and to see how fellow members are dealing with them. yes the comment was not directed to me but Im not going to sit with my hand up my *** either. Marty I hope your health is well as far as your problems go I have some of my own as well I am not covered under any plan either right now, also just to be clear ej Im not mad nor do I care what people say on the internet mabey you should take some of your own advice, I see your quick to jump on my back when I comment back to Marty so chill out yourself. Ive never got in a fight on here over stupid things in the 2 years Ive been on here, and read my first post, I was not looking for trouble, I was sharing my situation and seeing what ways you guys were dealing with your own similar situations for a positive view.

The economy is ***** now. I got laid off my job 2 months ago and i've been looking for work ever since. Nobody's hiring. I have no money to my name literally so thats the real reason i made my for sale thread i have nothing now. I just ended a divorce two days ago so now I have no one to help support me. I live in a 1200 sq.ft. house on 100 acres by myself now that i can't pay for. I'm really going to miss this place. Luckily my parents have decided to take me back in so long as i don't screw my life away. Now my 96 coupe project is at the transmission shop an hour away from my house that i can't pay for. I thank god everyday though for the fact that my parents both own businesses (dad has a Harley store and mom owns a Mac D's franchise here) McDonalds is the shiznit! lol ,and that they are still going strong. I really don't know what i'm going to do with myself if I don't find a decent job quick. Also i'm glad all three of my cars are paid off. If not I would be F'd in the A. I'm at the point where I want to give up and live in a ditch so i'm not a burden to my parents. Anyways there's my rant. Thanks for listening!
