Default files .pps

ok guys i need some help please for peeps that know some stuff about pc's. whenever i try to open a file via hotmail (attachment) that is .jpg or .gif i can open it fine, but if a try to open a file .pps there is a message saying that the internet explorer cannot open the file or cannot find it, and to try again later. those files that im trying to view are in powerpoint, i HAVE the powerpoint viewer installed and all that, i just dont know what the problem is. im running windows xp, new pc, but i dont think that could be the issue because if i go to the next room (brother's pc) i can open those same files fine... if i go to my laptop same i can open those files no problem. i really need some help guys please, i know some of you can help me... im not to bright when it comes to computers.

I would uninstall, and reinstall powerpoint. When dealing with computer issues, I've learned its better to not assume the worst, and just try the easy things first. 99.9999% of the time its something stupid and easy to fix...
