Formula 1 controversy
well, forty, you say they suck now, when you compare them to f1. but with the numerous restrictions made by nascar, it doesn't enable the sport to progress any further. it's taken them forever just to tryout the cars of tomorrow car concept because nascar is so strict.

Stop twisting my words. I didn't say the cars sucked then, I said they suck NOW

No the cars did not suck the tires and the fuel technology sucked. Old 426 Hemi equipedcars and such were mid 12 second cars on bias ply tires, the fastest car in the world for a LONG LONG time was a car equiped with Hemi engines. The 427 COPO gm cars were absolute monsters you put modern tires on any of these and watch the tires drop like crazy. The first Mustangs and Camaros dominated the Trans Am series road course racing. The Muscle car era ended for a reason and people would be shocked to know how little it had to do with fuel restraints and emmissions.Lately they may not seem to do much but Nascar is the test bed for alot of engineering designs. Also if it is so plain and easy to do then why has Toyota not been able to do **** in Nextell cup? It took them 8 months to win a Grand National Series race which is the minor leagues to Nascar. I am not trying to get people to like it, that is your choice but just because you dont like them dont mean the technology is not there.

No, I'm not wrong, your opinion is that I am wrong.
Allow me to rephrase what I said earlier. Nascar hasn't done **** LATELY for the advancement of automotive technology. Yes it is true that they were the roots of the big block cars, but in all actuality, those cars suck compared to sports cars of today.

Your wrong, everything from better side rails, supports, better side impact protection to the dry sump oil system used on the new Z06. The 500+hp stock muscle cars from the late 60's and early 70's owe it to Nascar, all around engine developement, so on and so forth. If it were not for Nascar and dragracing the most important and powerfull engines in U.S. automakers history would have never been developed.

I couldn't agree with you less, NASCAR hasn't done**** for USDM vehicles

WOAH!! check out the FIA regulations before saying that...If it werent' for all the restrictions on F1, they'd be freaking jets in the sky by now. You'd be amazed by all the restrictions in F1

I didn't twist any words around, give me a break. You said and I quote "those cars suck compared to sports cars of today" and I stated give them the tire technology of today and see what happens.

Thats correct, and I stand by what I said. It'd take a lot more than updated rubber to get me into a muscle car. If I were building an all out drag car, that'd be the platform of choice, but otherwise there are way better options out there today

Yea ok a your right I guess by saying a 69 Mustang with 250hp, bias ply tires, 4 wheel drum brakes, and manual steering is not as good as a 05 mustang that is lighter, rated at 50hp more, has 4 wheel antilock power disc brakes, Z rated 18 inch tires, and power steering. But you are also talking about nearly a 40 year difference. And all this means nothing because it is all skating beside the original discussion that nascar does infact make ways for new things on the classic muscle cars and the cars we see today. Once again I never not one time said that Nascar is better than F1, I think it is better compitition, I think they make way for new products that show up in the show room and in aftermarket companies inventory but that is me. I never wanted to get into a huge *** convo with anyone about it because I am not trying to prove anyone wrong.

It's not like there aren't many restrictions in F1. If you really think that, you would be surprised. Of course, NASCAR cars are dated in technology. I mean, they are still using an ancient pushrod technology in their motors. Nothing special with the gearboxes either. On the other hand, F1 cars use small displacement motors to crank out massive amounts of power. Those moters are hooked up to state of the art gerboxes. This technology contributes greatly to car of today and make cars, such as BMW M5 better then the competition. What american car has anything similar to a 5.0l V10 with an SMGIII 7spd gearbox?
