Default Help required regarding gearbox

Hi,
Hope you can help. I am from the UK and my younger brother has just messed up his gearbox.
The car will not work in 2nd gear or reverse but works in the rest of the gears.

His civic is a 1994 1.6 vti vtec eg6 engine-b16a.

He has been offered a gearbox from a 1.6 vti ef9 engine-b16a 1988-1991.

Will it work? can we use the gearbox from the older engine in the one he has? I have been told that the gear ratio's are different and the mounts may also be different. Can anyone direct us on the right path please?

Apologies if this is int he wrong section but need urgent feedback.

Thanks again for yur time.

Yes, as long as both are B series engines then it should work. by the sounds of it the 1.6 Vti Ef9 has a 1st gen B16a, and the Eg6 has a second gen B16a, there may be minor diferences in the trannies... and i am not sure if one is cable and the other is hydrolic for the clutchs. but once the more experienced modder come on tomorrow morning they will know the answer ffor sure, but as of now the answer is Yes they will swap out

88-91 are cable trannies............92+ are hydraulic. although it will physically fit(tranny will mount to the engine), the input shaft spline count, shift forks, diff pin and a few other minor things are different between the generations. your best bet is to find a 92+ transmission

Thanks for everyone's input to this.
Will locate a 92+ gearbox due to the differences in the clutch.
Thanks again.
