The Charger would have been a LOT cooler if it was offered in coupe form as well.
And I'm sorry, but the challenger has got to be one of the ugliest cars ever.

i sure hope that youre right, but every DCX source which ive spoken with, or stuff that ive read from DCX sources, have said that the challenger will be priced imilarly to the charger...
which would put it at around 40k...and again, if it comes down to bang for the buck, the challenger offers very little...

as of right now, we just know a car called Challenger is coming out in 2008. That is all.
Ill lay down the gauntlet right here and now:
If by MY 2009 the Dodge Challenger does not have available an engine bigger than the 6.1 liter current SRT Hemi V8 I will dress up in drag and post pics of it in my sig with the words "Patrick is my daddy"
The first year the Challenger is available the top of the line model will sport the 6.1 liter engine, no bigger. However in 2009 when the new generation 300/Charger are about to make their official debut, the engine will be a larger more powerful Hemi V8. Rumors have been surfacing of the 392 Hemi or possibly a 440 Hemi.
patrick do you know anything about this photo? im really not feeling that front end.

that car looks small or something...ive not seen that before...are there any more of it?
the front end looks like a sort of primative concept? like what the have now, but not quite refined..i dont like it as much as the concept, but if thats a production model, i could live with that.
allforsrt, i am a pessimist, i wont argue that, but all of my points, while being negative, have backup..."proof". every DCX source with whom i have spoken have said that it will be similarly priced to the charger..that means that we could be looking at a mid 20k V6 model? i mean no offense to you whatsoever, and im sorry if i ever come across like that, but i base all of my aruging points on facts or quotes...im an accountant by trade..i dont do speculation. part of accounting is "plan for the worst, hope for the best"...that way, any surprise is a good one...
i have read several interviews recently, as having spoken with a few DCX sources close to the challenger, and they have all insinuated, NOT stated, that there would be multiple engine offerings, but there are just as many sources who say that it will be a limited run, low production, high price car.
I have always been a mopar man...hell, ive only really owned mopar products. having had a kind of fast mopar for the last 10 years, im sick and tired of listening to the mustang and camaro crowd with the comments "why cant mopar make a strong rwd vehicle to compete with the mustang or camaro", and theyre right. their sedans are impressive, but it still doesnt answer the question from the "haters". the challenger appears to be mopars "chance" to finally shut up all of the mustang and f-body guys, but releasing a low production car that costs 40k (MSRP) up, doesnt do it.
DODGE needs to get over themselves..it doesnt matter how well their trucks sell, or that they had (but cancelled production of) the fastest car in the world under 20 grand. theyre still DODGE...they have no place charging 40 grand for their "mustang killer", considering that it wont kill the similarly priced GT500.
again, i hope that you are 100% right..it woudl be great, but i KEEP reading the comment "priced similar to the charger lineup", which means that we are looking at a 38-40 thousand dollar 6.1L model. will i still buy one? possibly, because im given no other choice. but if they do jack the price, and make the challenger another "elite" vehicle like the viper...they wont be servicing the guys who want to go beat up mustangs, they are servicing the pretty boy golf shirt and khaki wearing guys at the track who bring their mechanic with them, since they dont want to get dirt under their nails if they need to do something...then they go "Race", and give the cobra guys bragging rights by running only low to mid 12s, because their fat wallets can buy the car, but that doesnt mean that they can drive it. i dont want the challenger to become the next viper, but a huge price tag will make it just that.
and if they do it...i may likely go elsewhere, as my next car will have to have 12 second STOCK capability. i feel that the challenger is easily capable of that, but if dodge dicks the real dodge enthusiasts, like myself, i WILL buy something else, and the NEXT DAY, i will have my IEATSRT tags.

well, im serious...
while i have a RWD dodge coupe that will blow away any stock mustang, and many modded mustangs, ive spent 11 years now defending the fact that "yes, dodge really can put together a coupe...they just chose not to"...which is an awful arguement, but what else can i say? as cool as the viper is, its fairly useless for a "normal person", and thats where GM and ford have the advantage...they have always put together at least one performance car for a "normal person", and those cars offered some 'bang for the buck'..look at DCX's other performance cars...
the srt4 was a smoking deal, but thats where it ends.
WE will go up the scale by engine size.
the caliber is supposed to have a 300whp "srt-4 engine", but thats not available yet, and when it is? LOOKOUT VIBE OWNERS...theres a new 5-door sheriff in town!
next, the srt-6...the car that they simply shouldnt have bothered with. the crossfire is another one of those cars that when it was released, every mid 30s to early 50 year old women everywhere celebrated...and then the srt-6 model came out...in automatic only, and it was 50 grand...while the crossfire handles great, and is good for 13.s-ish ETs...50 grand?!
next, your srt-8 products. nice cars...very nice, but again, very expensive. dodge touted the charger as the competition for the mustang, but to really compete with the mustang, you have to have the srt-8 model, and then youre paying 38-42 grand (depending on which of the srt-lx models you have) to compete with a mustang, that you can get for 27k..ish. but they will beat the hell out of pretty much any other sedan. again, mid-life crisis guys rejoice, because no you can hide the problem, since you can get your performance car wrapped in a family car body. the srt-8 grand cherokee is nice looking and surprisingly fast, but again, who wants a performance SUV? its not really proving much...
then we get to the 'mighty srt-10 models'...a high 13 second regular car or a low 14 second quad cab truck for 50,000ish...or the almost 90,000 viper, which kicks *** (except for the Z06, which will beat the viper and is quite a bit cheaper)...
so, as a mopar enthusiast, those are my choices for my next new car, if i want something that will get out of its own way.
but again, there is a chance that my negative attitude could be unfounded and allforsrt is right, and i REALLY hope that he is, but i feel that thinking that the V8 challengers will be priced like the mustang (not gt500) just isnt reasonable, and dodges prior pricing supports my unfortunate case...[&o]
