Might be trading the mustang
Haha... it wouldn't be so bad if I weren't a professional mechanic. It's hard to work on cars all day and not know every problem your own car has. In addition, the lower intake gaskets are leaking, but it's not bad enough that I'm worried about it; also, when I throw a nice big lumpy cam in it next summer I have to take the intake and heads off, so I can replace the intake gaskets and head gaskets/studs all at the same time.
Now I'm not. I was 100% set on selling the stang privately and buying an STi (there's actually a difference between an STi and an STI) up until last Friday evening. Now it's not worth it since I'll be making about $2,000 off the sale once I fix everything.
and Kenny, that's the idea

All right, I'm going to start this up again. Ignore everything I've said previously, this is a new topic for an old thread.
So I was bored at work today and was skimming through Autotrader when I came across an '04 Impreza WRX STi for $12,850 about 2 hours away. I'm actually considering driving to see the car in person tomorrow. Basically, if I go for it, I'll be taking out a $13,000 auto loan from my bank. Right now, the only thing keeping me from doing this is I'm hesitant to get rid of a car I own to finance a different car. However, I want an STi more than I want a mustang at this point. So, on to the pros and cons:
Mustang pros:
-It's a mustang
-It's paid off
-cheap insurance (paid off = liability)
-it sounds fantastic
Mustang cons:
-It's a V6
-reconstructed title
-18mpg mixed driving from 200whp? Not that great.
-snow. I forgot to mention it last time, but I remember a morning last winter where I drove to work never exceeding 35mph (5th gear). Every time I got on the gas even the slightest bit, the back end started walking on me
-I'm kind of tired of it. 2 years with a slow car is enough for me
Sti pros:
-it's an '04 (less weight than the '05)
-It's an Sti
-305BHP turbocharged boxer engine
-The Sti sound
-The spoiler (yes, that's a pro. That spoiler is a guilty pleasure for me)
-AWD
-Factory 6-speed
-Factory/STi/SPT parts at slightly over cost, but well under retail
-I could rebuild the engine in my sleep
Sti cons:
-car payment
-full-coverage insurance (priced out, it's not a HUGE amount, but it's more than I'd prefer to pay
-It'll be a money pit. I'd say it wouldn't get modified, but then I'd be lying.
... so... thoughts? I think tonight while I'm depositing my paycheck I'm going to inquire about an auto loan and see what I'm looking at.

Like I said, I really want to. The only thing I'm hesitant about is the financing. I've never had to finance a vehicle, and I don't want to. But for an '04 STi, it's probably worth it
I'm going to give my insurance company a call tomorrow and see what I'd be looking at as far as insurance goes, too. I don't know the definition of "full coverage" and I don't know what the minimum coverage I can have on a financed vehicle is, so the best person to ask would be my insurance agent.
More info on the car: It's at a GM dealership and has 103k miles on the clock... I'm pretty sure the dealership doesn't actually know what they have or they'd be asking more for it.

F*ck it, thread over. Apparently I'm an idiot for wanting an STi. I guess I'll keep my poorly reconstructed powerless gas-hog with the bent front suspension and crappy brakes that I settled on.
