A reminder not to race on the street.
I've seen these kind of things before, but never when I've had a girlfriend whom I intend to marry.
ive had someone in a super ricer escort swoop and squat me...at about a hundred...a slammed on the brakes, and swerved...on the other hand, my buddy behind us in a beat up truck took offense to it, and ran him off the road...
thats why i am trying to get into auto-x and circuit racing. drag racing loses its appeal quickly, but i LOVE the other kinds of racing. its a new thrill every time i go out. and yeah, there is risk involved, but its in a controlled environment, with an ambulance waiting nearby. and i know exactly how you feel Se7en. i calmed down SOOO much since i met my then girlfriend/ now wife. i just know that i am meant for more in this world than to be a picture in a public service anouncement, and an obituary that says "before his time" sorry, ill keep it on the tracks.
sorry guys, even though my DD isnt a quarter mile screamer, i have been drag racing at least 2 of my cars for almost 10 years now...and i still get a feeling like i cant describe everytime i launch and yank the wheels..seeing that win light come on...or just pulling up to the line at a national event..with cameras staring at you, all those people...its awesome, but just being at the track on a friday night for test and tune...the smells..the sounds..all the cars...i dont know..maybe its because it was introduced to me by my dad and here and i are pretty tight, but no matter what car im in, no matter how fast or slow im running..i LOVE drag racing...

There is definately a thrill to drag racing. I remember a month ago when I pulled my car under the tower at GIR and saw all the lights and the people watching. I can still get that thrill by helping out my girlfriends dad with the Camaro at the track. I drove my car so carefully today, just like when I first got my license. I love driving through windy backroads, so maybe I'll try some autocrossing. Hell, I can sell my turbo setup and buy my dream suspension setup.
a few of my national events had ESPN there this past season...its so cool pulling through the NHRA towers...people watching...and for benig in the street legal/sportsman class..i do HUGE burnouts...which gets people going...
drag racings fun, but i just cant compare it to auto-x or circuit racing. youre really kinda supposed to lose your first few times out. its all about learning. i guess part of it too, is that the officials at our drag strip are retards, and they can never keep anything running smoothly. and they discriminate against imports SOOO bad. they made this kid take his full slicks off his 'teg, because it was "fun drags" but then later on i saw a FEW domestics pull up with full slicks. the guy was told that they hadnt allowed full slicks on fun night in 2 years. that kind of crap, along with all the "shoppers" that show up to scope cars, just take all the fun out of it.
i guess this is one of those opinion things that will never really be resolved...i do see your point about autox being longer and more skilled...but having been on a small national circuit on the 1/4 mile...anything outside of a .530 light sends someone home..plus the tuning effort betwen runs...i dont know..i love it.
honestly, at my home track, i think the imports are given more leeway than the V8 cars because it is assumed that they wont be very fast...and for the most part they arent. however, there was a kid there last year that took a burned out late 80s civic hatch and i mean BURNED out...he put a seat in it, and refurbished the engine just enough to run...he had someone fix a turbo up to the manifold, and ran piping..he added the needed wires and things to make the car run...lexan windows all around with a glass windshield...the car was barebones, and he ran 12.80s, on something like 10psi.. i talked to him, and he said with buying everything he had less than a grand in it all. it was a true eyesore, but it screamed. for such a cheap car.
