id like to add something small to this. theyre talking about how people couldnt afford to get out and they had to wait it out. well if we're the country we have the reputation of, why the hell didnt they send busses down to get them? i mean for christ sake...i sure as hell would have if i lived just north of there. but the gas pricese were jacked so high, people got left behind and nobody wanted to waste gas to get them out. i know im gunna get flamed for this...but gas is priced way to high. i dont care what anyone says about how oil is going up in price because of the hurricane...its a bunch of bull****. last week...the price went from 66 dollars a barrel up to 83. the gas industry then jacked up the prices. but by the end of the day oil was down to the price it was at at the beginning of the day. yet the gas stayed way the hell up. nobodys really blamed the gas industry for this...but they played a huge part in the death toll. if it wasnt so damn high priced for gas..people could have afforded to get out..or people could have helped others to get out. instead theyre worried about 'wasting' twenty bucks to save two people. they say 'it wont make a difference...we cant make a difference.' but you know what idiots? you woulda made a difference to them. that counts for something.

hell I hate em all including mine cause in general people suck but the reason the white people are "finding supplies" and the black people on tv are "looting" is simple.
One, the media has way of portraying minorities, black males especially, as criminals much of the time. Understand that the media is choosing what you're seeing, not necessarily the entirety of what's occuring. Read Culture of Fear by Larry Glassner if you're interested in that at all. Secondly, when you've had dirt for possessions your entire life and live in a culture that values materials and items so highly, the opportunity might as well be irresistable. If they get caught, what's going to happen? Arrested, alright, free meals and shelter. Shot at, unlikely with the authorities so stretched out and having to deal with armed civilians. Just saying, socio-economic status and crime have a great deal to do with one another.

Haha, get used to it. The oil wells aren't getting any higher.

President Bush does not care about black people!!

Lol just thought I remind everyone. I'm just kidding but seriously I do think relief efforts would be a little better if 3/4 of our armed forces wasnt over in Iraq dying for nothing!

Sorry but the armed forces was not created to assist in domestic situations. That's why the National Guard was created. Leadership all the way around starting from local, state and federal government didn't handle the situation correctly. Everyone was ill prepared to handle the aftermath of this hurricane. However, some victims make the relief effort harder by creating a chaotic environment by looting, raping and killing. I know the media portrays what they want you to see but the fact is that it is happening.

My heart goes out to those who are really trying to survive and not take this as an opportunity to vandalize. In the absence of order, there is disorder. Someone needs to take control and do what is necessary to save the majority. This is truly a disaster but made worst by incompetence of leaders.

So even if we had more of our armed forces here, whether this is their job or not, you don't think things would have been a little bit differently?

i beg to differ

This is true and very well said. The environment in which you are raised has a huge impact on the decisions you make, your morals and values, how you respond in "cause and effect" situations, etc. Of course you can't blame your past for everything, and regardless, you are ultimately accountable for what you do. Many people are strong enough to overcome a dysfuctional background, but most people are not leader material, follow the examples they see, are swayed by peer pressure, ect. Who's to say what kind of person I would be if I were rasied in the ghetto, or under some other extreme circumstance. Very true what you say Mad7s, there are a lot of hidden underlying causes for the things that go on in this world.
