As some of you may know, Im a Sheriffs Officer on Cape Cod. I love my job, I have been working here for almost a year now. I got the job through the Barnstable County Sheriff himself who comes into the bar I work at. I have been blessed with the oppritunity to fullfill a life long dream. I have been put on the Cape Cod Undercover Drug Task Force, Im not an UC cop, but I do dress out of uniform, which is something no first year sheriffs officer has ever been allowed to do.
However because I have been working at the bar since I was 17 years old, and have been a bouncer there and at 4 other popular bars on Cape, and have moved up to security manager of 2 bars (The Raw Bar, and The Boat House) I have been offered a job I pretty much cant refuse. This guy who has a summer home near the raw bar hangs out with me and a few other LE buddies. Well it just so happens this guy owns 3 very established bars in Boston, and he needs a security/events manager. Ill have roughly 30-40 guys under me. As well as a personal asst.
Not only that but hes going to help me get an apartment right in downtown boston on Comm Ave. and give me a bonus right off the bat. The job is going to pay 6 figures, and I havent stepped foot in a college course for managing a bar. I told him i would let him know by wedesday, and if i agree im going to have to give roughly 3 weeks notice at the sheriffs office.
I have pretty much already made my decision, and Im just wondering If you guys think this is a wise move?

Yeah looks like u have it planed out...but dont go buying things and then get youurself caught in a tight postion....spend your money wisely..but Good luck aagain...Sounds like a wwelll thought out plan...
Not calling you a liar by any means, but I find it really hard to believe that a "Security Manager" can make 6 figures. What else would the job entail? Because if sitting around and breaking up an occasional fight can bring in that kind of dough, I'm going home to hit the weights right now.
Good luck with your decision. If it were me, I would jump at the chance to make 6 figures. And even if I didn't like the job, I can save up some money while working there and start a business or do something else down the line.
Whichever you choose, GOOD LUCK and congrats!

I'd stay where you are at, bars get old and people stop going to them there for could have reason to shutdown. You gotta kinda think where the job security is at and we allways need cops

I wont be breaking up any fights Im a manager meaning when i work im overseeing the bouncers, the wait staff, the band, the Captain Morgan promotion girl, and making sure everything goes as it should. and there isnt an occasional fight. At these bars this guy owns there is on average 3 "scuffles" a night. Not to mention the frequent sketchy guy feeling up on some girl he shouldnt.
Other job responsibilites include booking bands, going to other bars and seeing the live entertainment they bring in, and how many people these bands bring in. having the Boston PD on speed dial for all these kids who start fights and making sure I get names and LKA of every kid who strated a fight. Interviewing constantly for the constant shuffle of waiters and bouncers, because someone is always "no callin, no showin" and bouncers are always letting the good looking underage girls in. Booking promotional people from various companies, ordering beer and alcohol and whenever the General Manager needs ANYTHING guess who he calls? ME.
The whole plan with doing 3 bars is going to have to be get a dozen or so bands and have them rotate to each bar, so people arent hearing the same sh tty music every night of the week. Trying to find 12 RELIABLE bands, where the kids in them actually WANT TO PLAY, and not just drink and pick up chicks and sound like SH T is a hard thing to do. lol
Sure a security/events manager working at one bar isnt going to make too much money (average is about 40k a year) but Im going to be managing 3 bars at once....not an easy task. and my salary isnt much over 6 figures. its 110k a year. The biggest reason why im getting paid this much is the guy who runs these bars knows, i know what im doing. I have been working as a Security Manager for the past 3 years at 2 of the biggest bars on Cape Cod at a very young age. He knows he is getting someone who has a lot of years ahead of him and is willing to work hard.
EDIT* Did I mention the bartenders? lol Yah do you realize how many bartenders steal money, alcohol, and do a whole bunch of other scams. They are hard to catch. If I didnt like the responsibility and the challenge of doing this I would NEVER do it.

Thanks for calrifying, it makes a lot more sense now. Like I said I wasn't trying to be an ***, just sounded a bit nutty.
..oh yeah, and around here $25 an hour for a bouncer is unheard of. I used to bartend for a little while, and have a few friends who are bouncers. They don't make anywhere near that
