heres the thing...

im a domestic guy...period. even my imports are domesticated...like my eclipse in dodge skin...granted, and evo may very well be my next car..but still...

the reason that people (like me) make fun of import drivers is because its not the plain clothed Si with a swap and a huge turbo that gets press, or gets noticed at car shows...its the stock, automatic HX with a body kit that isnt painted, but it has $5,000 rims...."one bad apple"...for instance, i am proof that not all domestic drivers go around making fun of imports...but at the same time, it seems that awful ricers get more press than skilled import tuners..hell, look at that episode of pinks...they made the import racing scene look like a COMPLETE joke to everyone who doesnt know what a REAL 600 whp hatch would do...

if you want to make domestic guys respect you as an import tuner, then punch everyone with an APC sticker on their windshield, right in the face...

but, no matter how many truly fast imports some people see, they will always make fun of imports...they will lump everyone in as "ricers"...and those people are douchebags...and everyone has to learn to cope with the fact that some people are "tough" or "cool" because daddy bought them a mustang...and even though their stock non-PI GT gets pounded by a mildly modded civic, that person will still talk trash because its a ricer...

 

a guy I work with has a stock 98 Mustang GT, he thinks his car is the fastest thing in the world, because its a GT. He has this whole notion that a civic could never beat him. So next time I work the same shift as him we're gonna throw down.....for money.

i have the same problem with a kid that is in my automotive class, he drives an 89 mustang 5.0 which runs a 14.1 in the quarter and he thinks that there is no possible way that a civic could ever keep up with him, so if any one that runs in the low 14's or in the 13's in the q/m around the akron/canton ohio area feel free to come show him what its like to get his A** handed to him by an import

 

well, 14.1 isnt bad,..the mid 90s GTs were VERY slow...i see plenty in the high 14s, all the way to mid-high 15s!

 

I've gotta agree with Marty, and Patrick to some extent, though I can respect some "rice." I'm not into the show scene at all. I don't like the way most import show cars look, with their completely impractical, often times ridiculous looking dress up parts. But I can respect an individual for putting in the time to make their ride, their ride, no matter what's been done to it, and I can respect them for standing up for what they like, even though many may scoff at them. I can't respect dumbasses like that guy on Pinks, but that applies to any dumbass, whether they drive an import, a domestic, or anything else.

Mad props for your car btw, Berz. I see a lot of detail and work. Looks pretty quick too.

 

I would love to do that, since I live pretty close - Parma. However, my car barely breaks into 15s . I can probably own him in the twisties though

 

i totally agree with marty on this one, myself i prefer imports and will drive one till the day i die. but if someone like domestics, all the power to them. just don't get in my face about how they think their car is better than mine. and i would take the vette over the civic, i would just sell it afterward and buy an S2000 or NSX. like i said my preference.

 

you probly could take him in the twisties b/c i kno for sure that my car will own his in the turns, from personal experiances

 

hmmm...while i am a domestic guy, and i like seeing fast imports, i also like some "ricers"...i like some body kits...and my car has a system in it..neon..LEDs...exhaust, intake, mounts...certainly no 500hp car...but its my DD, and i do stuff that i think make it look better, in my eyes...F everyone else...
