I agree with Kappa by a 100%. My friend vovka86 had a problem when ******** at the tire shop stipped some threads on one of the studs

 

In our case, it's for the sake of doing reliable work and preventing other problems. And as for being handy with the steel, I agree, but being handy with tools is more important that being handy with an air gun.

No, I don't ever plan on going to "school" for auto repair. I already have all the education I need, from the best teacher I can imagine (my dad). He's owned and run his own repair business for the past 30 years, and he recently transferred partial ownership to me. But he's never used air tools to do any of his work, which is partially why I don't, and we've never had a complaint or faulty job.

 

oh, i'd only use them for certain stuff, but they are indispensible on things like tranny bolts. and never ever ever ever use an impact wrench to tighten lug-nuts. actually, i dont use them to tighten anything, just to run through the threads of long bolts. but dont tighten them with the impact.

 

What about like Nascar? Don't they use air tools like during pit stops so they can change the wheels fast as hell?

 

yeah, but they are just worried about time and finishing the race. they will replace everything before the next race anyway. and the wrenches they use cost many many times as much as ours. and im sure they are set at a specific torque that wont hurt anything.

 

Enough about air tools. About your original question man with UTI, my buddy Tito goes there (the Ranchoone) and is going to finish up in the next few months. He's been fully satisfied with his experience there and is probably going to be moving on to work at Mercedes Benz if his NASCAR application is denied (likely). I say you give it a shot. On a cautious note, don't hang out with the Reefer man while you're there because they test for that a GRIP! Good luck in whatever you decide.
