The Moogly hit it right on the head. Driving is a priviledge. Ever wonder why the Autobahn has/had no speed limit? When you're whipping your Porshe around those perfect roadways, bumping techno music, sipping a latte is out of the question. 9 out of 10 people I saw driving today were either eating or talking on their cell...one girl was smoking and text messaging! And yes, the elderly need a probationary license of some sort.

 

i whole heartedly concur with marty, in the case that on both ends of the spectrum have similarities and should have some sort of constant test yearly or what not.

and i just heard recently that in new york you take a driving test then 3 or 6 months later you have to take it again. before you get your permanant license.

driving is definitely a privilege, but 1800 bucks for driving classes is a bit much.

 

I honestly think it would not hurt to have to get re-tested every 5 years or so through out your driving life.

 

Being from New York, You take your permit test (which is written, pay close to $80 only if you pass), and now it is mandatory that if you're under 18 that you have to have 20 hours of supervised driving before taking your road test. After you get your permit then you have to sit through a 5 hr course (basically defensive driving). Then after waiting for like 5 weeks to get the completion letter you can then take your road test. But yeah, after taking drivers ed or going to some driving school, you're paying close to $400-500 for your license after all is said and done. And if you're a male you'll probably be paying close to $350 a month for car insurance. Mine just went down to $290 a month and I'm 21. You'd think people would be better drivers here in new york with all the money that you have to spend on insurance.

But on a side note, marty is correct. Young drivers and elder drivers are pretty close when comparing there driving.

 

right now here in CT, they're trying to figure out what to do w/ the issue of elderly drivers because of an incident that happened last month here in my hometowm. an 80 year old man literally plowed into a group of people durimg a festival thing downtown. 28 people were hurt and a couple were assistants to a guy running for senator (the driver missed him though). they think he pressed the gas pedal by mistake instead of the brake. and i also agree that kids driving like idiots should be retested because the whole time i was stuck at the busy intersection, dumbasses were reving and floor ing their cars like they were trying to prove something. well my jdm splendor just went to jdm junk. i still can't believe it. o, and can you belive this lady did not have her insurance card w/ her? not only that, she did not apologize at all, not once. not for hitting my car or making my burger king fly all over the place. its one thing to bust up my whip, but when you mess up my lunch, your *** is going to court. my friend was holding the food and it got all over him. he got pretty banged up. but he's alright. well guys thanks allowing me to vent, it's just hard to believe that my car is not w/ me right now. this was my first accident so i don't know exactly how to go about this. the cops have all the info and i have to go pick up a report on monday. dou you guys have any tips on what to do?
