02 Civic EX [auto] No Reverse
Hello everyone
I have 02 civic EX Sedan Automatic. Recently I had my transmission rebuilt, they put new sensors and solenoids. Now when I put it in reverse, it has not power. Forward is fine but reverse has no power. The Mechanic told me that I need new ECU. He sais that ECU is not working the way it should.
My questions are
1. Do I need new ECU.
2. Can the current ECU be reprogrammed.
3. Will the new ECU be programed already or will I have to reprograme it.
4. with the installation of new solenoids, do we normally need to reprogram the ECU.
I have already spent over$2500 on this car and its still not working. Honda dealership is asking another $1200 to diagnose the car, get new ECU and programme it. Any help you can provide will be appreciated.

The car has 175K miles on it. It has a check engine light on. I took it to Autozone and the codes are
P1768 = Clutch pressure solenoid "A" Circuit Malfunction
P1773 = Clutch Pressure Solenoid "B" Circuit Malfunction
These are both brand new Honda Solenoids that I had installed. Again Forward has no problem at all. It shifts all 4 gears fine. But no power in reverse.
Any Help?

Check the solenoid plugs for corrosion or damage. Also back-probe the wires with everything plugged in to check if battery voltage is being applied to the solenoids. I think the ECU switches the "cold" side of the solenoid to ground to engage it, the "hot" side having battery voltage whenever the key is on. It could just be a blown fuse or a broken wire.
