04 Civic Timing Belt Help

RE: 04 Civic Timing Belt Help
Don't go more than 110,000 miles. A lot of people like to replace them sooner to be absolutely sure. If you drive until it breaks, your car will just suddenly quit and have to be towed away. Also having the belt break is very likely to result in severe engine damage.

RE: 04 Civic Timing Belt Help
I had a timing belt go in an old Chrysler LeBaron with a "non interference" engine and it was no big deal. The car just quit running and had to be towed and then it was out of commision for several days until the shop got around to working on it. Had I followed the manual and replaced the belt when I should have, the expense would have been less than half and I would have had my car back in a reasonable time.
With an "interference" engine, not only do you have the hassle of having a broken down car, you had lots and lots of time and money to get it running again.
The question I would have is "What is it worth to you to not have your engine destroyed?" Is it worth the few thousand extra miles you would get? Personally, I am going to change mine at 100K... You know, just to be safe. Pistons hitting open valves is VERY bad. At best, you will only have to get the head rebuilt. At worst, new pistons too... YUCK.
Replace the belt as the manual says so!

Yea, just play it safe and replace it when the manual says to.
I think the manual that honda put out about it's car would know better than others who tell you something else.
Some people do get lucky sometimes.
But why run that risk?
