1990 Civic LX Misfire Problem
When I started the car it idled real rough, so I started pulling plugs while it was running to see where the misfire was coming from and I determined that it was the 2 middle cylinders that weren't firing. Both of the wires get fire from the distributor, and each plug gets fire when I take a plug out at a time and hold it to the valve cover and run it. When I start the car up with both plugs out, it doesnt shoot anything out of the spark plug holes, and as of right now I am at a loss. I have no idea what it could be causing it to misfire in two cylinders.
Before this happened, it was running fine. It had a little over heating issue but I would always just add coolant every so often and it would be fine. At times when I would come out and start the car up after it had just been running, it would start up and idle very bad like it is now, but after reving it up a few times it would eventually even itself out and idle like normal. The day this happened I was driving it just fine at about 60mph and soon as i slowed down to a stop light it started idleing weird.
My guesses are either a sensor gone bad, or some sort of gasket leak causing those two cylinders not to get good enough compression not to fire.
I'm not sure what the fireing order is in the car, and I'm also not sure which motor is in the car. I have only owned it for about a week and I'm looking foreward to learning some more about my honda. I'm new to the game so please go easy on me
although I do know a thing or two about general engine teardown and motor work.
Thanks

If you have a DX etc with the "dual point" fuel injection system, all cylinders get fuel from the same two injectors in the throttle body. Compression test should be conducted to see if there is a blown head gasket between the two cylinders.
While you are doing the compression test, disconnect the two wire plug to the distributor. It is bad to fire the coil into an open circuit (plug wires disconnected).
Also, unlike many cars, the valve clearance does not adjust itself. If the valves are too tight due to wear or improper adjustment, there will be loss of compression and misfiring-- especially at idle.

When you turn your key to ACC, can you hear the Fuel Pump prime? Makes a small whine sound.
Also kinda sounds like your Fuel Pressure Regulator may be going. This is the least likely. I would do MK's tips first.
