Default 1999 civic ex diagnostic code help

Just bought a 99 civic and was wondering how exactly i get the codes without using a tool.There has to be a way to jump it right?

Sorry i looked through forum and couldnt find anything..nut maybe that was me

does the CEL have to be on..cause mine isnt

If the CEL is off, then there are no problems currently detected. If old codes have been stored, they will be retrieved.

you can also goto autozone they have a obd2 scanner and it is a free service
they will tell you all codes and can reset it
