Default 2000 Civic better than 2001 Civic??

In the process of finding and purchasing a 2000 or 2001 Civic. Was wondering if anyone more knowledgable than me would know if one is any better than the other....same trim packages etc....
Like the stylings of the 2001 but Edmunds was saying in their eyes the 2000 was just about perfection and they thought that Honda woud have to go to great lengths to surpass the '00.....Identical cars...different years...is one better than the other??....I know better is subjective but Im talking over all.....thanks.........

well, they aren't identical cars. in 2001 they changed the body style and the motor. The 92-2000 civics arguably have the best aftermarket support and "moddability". is this important to you?

Thanks for the replies....appreciate it.
Im aware (I think) of the differences between the two years, I was referring to the same make/model, just different years....thanks though...
Also, not looking to mod.
Since the 2001 was redesigned has there been (in general) problems w/ that year?
For your money if you could get either of the two years w/ the same mileage/condition whats the prudent move?.....thanks again.........Kenny

The generation starting in 2001 was a step backward for Honda. There was significant "decontenting" mechanically. In particular, the front suspension was downgraded to Macpherson struts, just like most econoboxes have, with a loss of suppleness compared to the earlier front suspension.

The body styling became slablike and boring, in my opinion.

I own a 99 EX, so I may be accused of prejudice toward "my" generation. But I really saw no reason to prefer the next generation and many reasons to feel I had bought my Honda at the right time. All things being equal, I would advise anyone to prefer the 2000 and earlier to the 2001 Honda Civics.
