Default 2000 Honda Civic Repairs

I just purchased a 2000 Honda Civic. While I was driving it the car die on me and wouldn't start. The car has spark(weak spark) it cranks but won't start. The car hasn't had any maintenance done on it since 120 and it has 165 on the odo.(just oil) What would you say about using honda parts compared to O'Reily parts or Napa?

I would do a major tuneup on it if I were you.

^That definitely sounds like a very good possibility.

Take the distributor cap off and try to draw sparks from the coil output post to a grounded test wire. Should jump more than 1/2 inch. If you only have weak sparks there, it's a bad coil. If strong sparks from the coil, cap or rotor may have cracked.

I'd also check if the timing belt has slipped. This can be done by removing the top plastic cover only (the valve cover will need to be lifted to get it out), turn the crank by hand to TDC and check the marks on the cam pulley.

Blown coils and skipped timing belts seem to be the most common reasons for sudden death on the road. If it's not that, the next thing to do would be to remove the fuel return hose (I think a 2000 has one) and check for fuel flow.

The possible fuel issue is good and has been shooted. I'm going to purchase plugs and wires in a few days. My friend is coming over in a couple of days to shoot the distrib. I'm looking at wires right now and price wise they are all over the map. Does it really matter what brand i purchase? Thanks for all the love!
