Exclamation 2001 Civic front end noise

I hope someone can help me identify the problem (and hopefully save me some money!).

A few weeks ago, I started to hear a "creeking" noise from the front drivers side of my civic. I don't hear the noise when driving on smooth pavement, and it also doesn't seem to make the noise until the car is heated up (within 3 kms).

Given the symptoms, I suspect it is a worn bushing, but don't know how to identify which one...

Any thoughts? It sounds like a creeky wood floor...not much else I can say.

Thanks!

Can you reproduce the sound by pushing down hard on the driver's side front bumper? Put the front end on stands to inspect the front suspension components, giving the struts (shock and spring) particular attention.

Hi RonJ, thanks for the reply.

Yes, pushing down on the bumper reproduces the noise---also, just sitting in the drivers seat and shifting my weight to make the car rock does the same.

What would I be looking for if I got it up on stands?

With the front end on stands, try again to reproduce the noise and, if successful, locate and photograph the noisy area. Post clear well focused photos to get more feedback.
