Unhappy 2004 Civic EX not running.

Hi

I own a Honda civic 2004 EX automatic model, have 112000 miles on it. I bought it 10 months back at milege 12000.

The Car suddenly started issues like hiccups in gearshifts and power shut offs and I have taken to the Honda service center. They have adviced me to replace the engine head assembly and engine harness which would cost me around 5500$ + labour which would be equivalent or more than the price of the car now. Please advice what can be done on this. I am going out of country soon and I need to sell this car and go

regards
Anil

10K miles/month??? You drove the hell out of the car!

Are you looking to repair or just sell? What exactly does the mechanic say is wrong with the car?

Did it overheat so much that the harness melted? That generally means the whole engine is toast.

Someone will buy the car as it is, people like to switch engines around anyway.

Start out with a compression test before anything, make sure you have atleast 130 to 175 psi steady in each cylinder. If your compreassion is good try swapping out an ecu from the same vehicle. All the miles in such a short time puts alot of strain on the electrical system. Its possible you might have a few stuck valves and need to take the head to a machine shop.

Hi,

I am the third owner the car and my previous owner drove the a lot. I bought it after it crosses 100,000 in April 2008.

I have taken the car to Honda and they could not trace anything using the code given for the check engine and they also tried out all the possible combinations of codes that come out of check engine. After 3 days research and try they had informed me that the Engine Head assembly should be replaced and if doesnot help then enginge harness also need to be replaced, the cost of these combined together($5500+) with labor cost would be more or less equal to what I would get if I sell the car($6500), which I was trying to do as I need to go back to home country in a months time.

I am in a dilema on what to do here. I have contacted a local mechnic, the cost may be little less, he was sugegsting about getting a replacement part out of a salvaged car and try out. But I would like to know from you experts on what are my options there.

Sale of the car is my most important thing as I am moving out of the country.
Please let me know the suggestions.

thanks
Anil
