Default 2008 Civic, flashing check engine light. No rev.

Hi everybody, new to the forum here and looking for some advice on my girlfriends car.

Yesterday she was on the way to work and her 08 civic overheated and shut off and wouldn't start.

Her uncle came by a few hours later, topped off the coolant and took it for a drive, it over heated again and same problem.

I got it towed home today, I replaced the thermostat, refilled the coolant and topped the oil.

The car started and ran, heated up normally, blowing lots of hot air now. Sounded great and didn't run hot at all, the check engine like came on, but I though it may have had something to do with replacing the thermostat so I never payed much mind to it

Thought everything was okay, took it for a drive, it's sputtery starting off and didnt seem real responsive andhand lackedilacked power. It seemed to clear up and drove good. Idled good, all seemed fine.

I stopped and got out walked around the car it sounded fine and seemed fine. I left again and the check engine light started to flash and lost all power. Push the gas pedal to the floor and no rev, no power just stay at idle. Managed to limp into my parents driveway and get a ride home.

I have no idea what it could be. Any help or direction greatly appreciated, thanks.
