Default 2012 Civic steering failure???

Good morning. My name is Lee Alvarez and I purchased a used 2012 Civic LX for my son a few weeks ago. The car HAD 140K on the odometer and needed two new motor mounts when purchased. The motor mounts were replaced and the transmission fluid was changed too. This past Saturday both sons were headed out for bagels when the steering went out and they ended up jumping a curb and totaling the car. The son that was driving said that they were headed straight down the road and he suddenly lost the ability to steer the car as they started to drift towards on coming traffic. So, he began trying to steer back towards the right and then the steer control return and the car over corrected and went straight off the road.
Luckily no one was hurt, but the car is totaled. My son told the exact same story to the police multiple times and they did not believe him. So, the nI got home I did a quick search and found a site called Carproblems.com and found dozens of stories from folks regarding the same issue where the electric steering either cuts out or the steering wheel locks.
I am reaching out to this forum as I know that the folks on car forums love their vehicles and tend to know everything that is great and not so great about their cars. I am hoping y'all can provide feedback including any technical service bulletins, etc.
And if I posted this to the wrong section of the forum I apologize in advance.
Thanks in advance.

I don't have a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) for it, but you can look it up. I have heard of it happening to an Accord before though. There might be others as well, but I'd look up the TSB for it. My son's 08 Civic Si has a TSB for the trans, but hasn't done anything about. It's just a warning in his case (6 speed trans likes to grind going into 4th, and the solution/repair is a full rebuild of the trans).

Toecutter,

Thanks for the reply. I will assume you are a fan of the first Mad Max movie. Where can I find a listing of TSBs for the 2012 Civic??

We kissed 5K goodbye and scrapped the car when the title finally arrived about 4 weeks after the accident.
