3qt oil GONE in 200 mi - HELP - pic of leak pg2
im sure the leak is one and hopefully the only problem. i took this issue to an actual shop and had a mechanic take a look -- and you know what? he spotted a leak.it was notleaking like crazy or anything, but you could see the oil residue smothered under the motor. he explained he'd need to get through the transmission to getthat fixed. (i forgot what part of the engine he needed to fix the leak, but i remembered him saying getting through the transmission part.) at this point he did recommend that if i wanted to do anything with the clutch that i do it when i get the leak fixed too -- i guess it's"hitting 2 birds with 1 stone" type of situation.then i explained that i also go through about 3qt's every 200 mi or so -- then all of a sudden he explains there's something wrong with the motor, and that i should buy a new motor, just like the mechanic at Honda.damn...so i checked out Yelp.com, and found a reputable, supposedly honest mechanic, and im planning to get another opinion from him.if this catches anyone's interest -- im hittin up the auto shopAdvantec in San Diego, CA asap.
i know the leak is a problem. i should mention that.i know filling up oil every so often is a huge problem -- but everytime i mention that i get the same ol' get a new motor. (wtf.)maybe i should NOT mentionthat so they can fix the damn leak first... haha.oh man, i hope im not wastinmoney fixing a leak on a busted motor.
How long have you own this car? To burn that much oil, you should have seen a gradual loss of oil. Losing that much oil after an oil change without any visible smoke, I would think it had leak out. Is the oil filter is the correct one? Make sure that there aren't any old filter gaskets on the block from previous oil changes.
You likely only see a small amount of oil on the cardboard because the engine was not running. To try to understand the problem, you really need to locate the source of the leak. To do this, fill the engine with oil and let it run while parked and raised on jacks. Revving the engine may increase oil flow and help you locate the source. Take pictures of the leak location so that forum members can provide you with informed advice.
