81 hatchback, turns over but doesn't start
1981 Honda Civic Hatchback
1300 cc
2 Speed Hondamatic
2 Barrell Carberator
I've had the car for just about 1 yr, and up until now she ran just fine and we got along quite well, last weekend we went on a bit of a trip and to say the least she was not happy about it. She started idling really really low to the point that any time we'd slow down she'd just stall, regardless of temp of engine. Thinking we could tinker around ever so slightly and adjust the idle speed, has resulted in her no longer starting at all. It turns out that the solenoid on the carb had spontaneously became unthreaded and was just hanging there, so reinstalled that, and found that the carb is not getting any fuel into it at all. I replaced the fuel filter and even [just to tick off the easy solution boxes] put some more fuel in the tank. But alas, still no fuel to the carb. [we did however splash a bit of fuel into the carb and she started just fine, so we know that she does run when fuel is present]
So....any suggestions on why the carb isn't filling with fuel...?
replacement pump is where I'm at now, but having a bit of a difficult time finding one online or locally as it is the mechanical pump not electric.
Any other options I could test out that would hinder fuel to the carb? Or possibly how to test the pump? / Find a replacement ?
[I was just reading something about the float level in a carb cutting off fuel before the bowl has enough fuel...so I guess I'll start there...just all the things I've read say do not dismantle carb, black magic voddooo haha]
Any help would be greatly greatly appreciated !!
Cheers
