Fuel Pump problem??????
alright...im starting to get frustrated at this point. Ive replaced the following on my 95 civc ex with the d16z6......timing belt, cam seal, water pump, crank seal, plugs, wires, cap, rotor button, fuel filter, air filter, checked and double checked the crank and ignition timing.the car will start to accelerate and then it stutters, falls on its face and then picks up again. ive even advanced the timing and it still does the same thing. i took it out fri night for a quick trip around the block and it didnt do this at all. the next day, started it up around the block we go....back to square one. the car has 195k on the clock.we even did a compressiontest and all4cylinders held great compression forits age. could the fuel pump/sending unit be the issue? my fuel gauge isnt working either. i know there is a tank filter, but can you replace that without having to replace the entire assembly? Im at a loss...if i cant figure it out soon, im taking it to a honda garage. thanks in advance. im just looking for other opinons.
the fuel pump filter (also referred to as the fuel pump sock) can be easily replaced and does not require replacing any other parts besides itself.
Your fuel pump could be bad, or this filter could be clogged. It's pretty easy to replace either one.
Before you go out and replace the fuel pump though I think someone else like RonJ will have more suggestions to check whether or not your fuel pump is fine.
Though you can easily check the fuel pump filter to see whether it's clogged or not. Remove the bottom backseat cushion, take off the fuel pump cover, unplug some wire harnesses, remove the fuel lines from the fuel pump lid thing, remove the bolts around the round fuel pump lid thing, and pull out the fuel pump assembly. Then you will be able to assess the condition of the fuel pump filter.

Is the CEL ON? If so, retrieve the trouble code as detailed at the link in my signature.
I agree with you and trustdestruction in considering a possible fuel system problem.
I think that you should focus on the (1) fuel pressure regulator, (2) fuel pump, and (3) fuel injectors. The first two can be tested by measuring the fuel pressure as described in the diagram below. Even if you don't have CEL code 16 for the fuel injectors, I would still recommend that you perform a Seafoam treatment as clogged fuel injectors are a possible cause for the problem.

How hard is it to clean the injectors on those cars?

I recommend that you first do the fuel pressure tests in the diagram prior to pulling out the fuel pump. You may be able to find a free rental for a fuel pressure gauge at a local auto parts store, such as AutoZone.
I am going to try those things this evening, but heres what is leading me to a fuel issue. I took the car around the block last night just for the heck of it and it ran like a champ. I am going to get some seafoam tonight and do the brake booster trick. I had already put what i had left in the gas tank. I appreciate the help guys.
