runs like its firing on only one piston or three.. its really rough. runs for about 5 seconds then dies. after so many attempts the plugs get gas all over them and i cant get it to start. whats werid is when i turn it over with a timing light to it. the marks are all lines up where they should be when it flashes. but its not really a steady spark/flash... ok so now the list of the shot guning i did LOL

Check for steady voltage to the ignition coil/ignition circuit. Check the engine grounds. Make sure that you put the reluctor back onto the distributor shaft properly (it should run "up the ramps" as it rotates).
More likely though it's a fuel problem. Those are always fun on the carb models. I do know that if you have a vacuum leak it will preferentially kill cylinder #4 because all the vacuum lines connect to the manifold near #4.
