90 civic cluster swap "blue connector?"
Hey guys,
I just swapped the non-tach cluster from my 90 hatch with a tach having cluster from a 91 si sedan.
My question concerns the number of connectors. My 90 hatch cluster had 3 connectors plugged into it, the 2 normal "white" connectors and 1 smaller "blue" connector. The 91 si cluster just had slots for the 2 white connectors. I plugged them in, left the blue one hanging and everything seems to be working fine.
What is the blue connector for?

As you say, the '90 Civic gauge assembly has three rear connectors: A (A1-A8), B (B1-B12), and C (C1-C5) (picture 1). If the C connector is the blue one you mention, then it controls the Low Fuel Warning Light (see terminal C3 in the circuit diagram of picture 2).

RE: 90 civic cluster swap "blue connector?"
Sorry for the delay on this, Thanksgiving and all...
Thank you RonJ for the pic, my blue connector does look like the c1-c5 connector with some minor differences.
Mine is located in the center of the cluster on a circuit board with 2 wires; One is connected to right speed pulser screw with the other connected to the screw to the right of the speedometer cable. Wish I had a pic I could show you.
It is not an after market conversion, it looks like it was factory installed.
Still a mystery to me.

Just a couple of questions:
1) Regarding the detached blue C connector, does it attach to only one wire (GRN/RED) and is this wire plugged into position C3 of the connector?
2) Is the only light/function that doesn't work in your new gauge assembly the Low Fuel Warning light?

From what I remember it was a full 5 wire connector now dangling behind my cluster. Neither my old cluster nor the new cluster has low fuel warning indicator.
I will borrow a cam and take a pic of the back tomorrow.
Thank you again for your input.
