Default 91 civic 1.5L Electical problem

I have an electrical problem with a 91 civic. First off the dash lights will not work. all fuses are good. wireing harness for the stereo is in tac. next there is a problem with a short somewhere. I believe it is something with the door sensor. Please let me know what other information might be useful. Thanks for any help or ideas.

Pull the dash lights brightness controller out of the dash and disconnect the connector. In the wire harness connector, put a jumper wire between the red wire and black wire terminals. With the light switch ON, do the dash lights now illuminate fully? If so, replace the brightness controller.

I don't understand what you are saying here. Is a fuse blowing? Which specific fuse?

Default Thanks for the info.

I will not get to try to the jumper wire till this weekend. Sorry about the confusion with the stereo. I was stating the wiring harness as the dash lights are connected through there I thought. Thanks agian.

First make sure that the tail lights work. The dash lights are on the same fuse. If the tail lights work but not the dash lights it is probably the brightness controller like Ron said. Also if you just got the car, consider the possibility that every single dash light bulb could be burnt out.

The light circuit goes TO the stereo but not THROUGH it. A short behind the stereo could blow the fuse. The tail lights will not work either in that case.
