'91 Honda Civic stall/ no start - timing?
I'm having a no start problem that's driving me crazy and I was wondering if anyone has encountered this problem or has any advice.
First, a little history: The car would start fine and drive ok in the cold however when the engine warmed up, it woudl start to putter. Warm weather would cause this behavior as well. I only took it on short 3 mile jaunts to and from work so never really paid attention to it until I took it for a longer road trip. At the end of about an hour of driving, I came to a stop light and the car puttered and stalled. I have not been able to start it since then.
I have tried the following trouble shooting steps.
1) checked for spark, all spark plugs are firing
2) checked for air, pistons are pumping when I remove a plug and put my hand over the cylinder
3) checked for fuel - no fuel smell. However, when I spray fluid starter fluid into air intake, same result. To verify, I removed a plug, sprayed a bit of fluid into cylinder 1 (short wire right?), replaced the plug. I was trying to see if it would fire at all and still nothing. The point is, I don't get any firing at all with air, fuel( starter fluid) and spark. The only thing I can think of is that the timing has jumped so far that i'm getting no compression.
Does anyone have any recommendations or suggestions? What would you do or have done differently? Am I missing something?
aaargh!
