My 1992 Honda Civic EXV will not start. Drove it to work and it was running fine. Came out after work and would not start. I have no spark and the fuel pump is not turning on. I have tested the fuel pump and it is fine. Checked the fuel pump relay or control and it is fine. The carhas around 155 000 KM on it. The rotor and cap also lookfine.
Any ideas

 

Does this condition occur when the car is cold as well? Many older civic suffer from poor solder joints in the main relay but if your is doing this cold, it might be a different story.

 

First check whether fuse 31 or 32 under the hood or fuse 18 under the dash is blown.

 

It did it when it was cold. I have replaced the ignition coil, the igniter and cap and rotor. It still wont start.It is showing a engine code of 48 now. But I can find out what the code is.

 

Have you carefully checked for blown fuses in both the under-hood and under-dash fuse/relay boxes?

A bad LAF sensor (similar to O2 sensor) (code 48) is unlikely to cause a no-start condition.

 

Yes we have checked all the fuses. I had a honda mechanic who lives on my street take a look at it and the first this he did was check the fuses. He did a buch of tests and they all indicated a bad igniter. Replaced that and also replaced the coil and cap and rotor. Still no spark. From brand new when you would would turn the ket to the ignition setting the check engine light would come on for a second and go off then you would turn the key to start it. When this problem happened before I tried to start it the light didn't go off. The car then did not start.

 

Please state whether this summarizes the current problem: The starter cranks the engine but it has no spark at any of the plugs and the fuel pump does not prime.

If so, I recommend that you:

1) carefully recheck for blown fuses.

2) test whether the distributor connector has battery power when the ignition key is turned to ON.

3) test whether the main relay makes several click sounds when the ignition key is turned to ON. If not, test whether the main relay is receiving battery power and whether the relay is functioning properly:

 

We checked all the fuses and replaced that relay first. Then all the tests came back to the igniter. Replaced that as well as the coil and car and rotor. Could it be a crank sensor.

 

More troubleshooting information is needed to help you find a fix.

1) Does the starter crank the engine?

2) Is the connector to the main relay receiving battery voltage with the ignition key turned to ON (see diagram above)?

3) Is the connector to the distributor receiving battery voltage with the ignition key turned to ON?
