Default 94 honda civic vtec engine removal

do you have to remove axles to remove just the motor

Yes.

You need to remove the whole thing, engine and transmission. The axles are attached to the transmission. You don't wanna try to float the transmission while you pull the engine. It's much simpler to pull the whole thing at once.

why not it seems like its easier to pull just the engine

It may seem that way, but it isn't.

I recommend going to www.hondatech.info and downloading the service manual for your generation (95-95). It will give you detailed instructions.

Ok, leave the axles on and just start hoisting the engine out of the bay. Let us know how that works out.

he gave you the link to download the service manual... did you read the instructions? How hard does it look when you read the manual?

Lift the front of the car off the ground and support it. Remove the wheels/tires and undo both lower ball joints. Pop the axles loose and then pull the axles out of the transmission by swinging the hubs out. It is not necessary to remove the axles completely from the car.
