Default 95 Civic auto transmission fluid change question

I bought my Civic with a rebuilt motor that has 118k on it. I have no idea how many miles are on the transmission.
Normally first thing I do when i get a car is change all the fluids but I am hesitant to change the tranny fluid on this car because of what I have read on the internet. They tell me Hondas are very sensitive when it comes to their tranny fluid and its best to get the dealership to do it. Further more the fluid is burnt and dirty as hell. It shifts ok for the most part but kinda slams into 3rd and 4th unless I finesse it just right.
So the question is should I change it or leave it alone because the last thing I need is for it to start slipping but given the condition of the fluid I am afraid I am just gonna be tearing it up anyways.

Use only Honda fluid. It's OK to change it yourself, just drain and refill it can't make anything worse.
