Guys,

I have an AT and have an odd sound when applying the gas a very low speeds i get a weird grrrrr sound like creaking steps.This sound is heard from 1k -2k rpm.I do not hear the sound at highway speeds i'm guessing because of road noise? When i let off the gas and come to a stop its very noticeable like a creaking or grinding coming from the front.I have new front brakes,rotors,pads, and calipers.The pads look good.The brakes are fine.I recently had a shop do both front axles thinking this would solve it however no dice.Inner and outer tie rods are also replaced.Could it be motor mounts?? Transmission shift cable?Trans seems to be shifting ok no slippage.

We'd just be guessing too based on what you describe. You should do some more tests. First see if it will make the noise when not rolling at all. Hold the brakes firmly with your left foot and shift into drive and press the gas moderately. Do the same thing in reverse. If you can get the noise that way, have someone else work the controls while you listen under the hood to see if you can localize it.

The other test would be to try to rule out the engine and most of the transmission by shifting into neutral and turn the engine off (key to I, not all the way to lock) after getting rolling about 25 mph. Do this in an empty parking lot because the car may become hard to control with no power steering or power brakes.
