'97 LX d16y7 Running Rich. Help?
Hey Folks.
Just recently resolved a surging idle problem on my 97 LX sedan. Replaced the PCV valve, IACV, TB+TPS, valve cover gaskets and plug grommets, spark plugs (NGK Iridiums), plug wires, distributor, exhaust manifold..
Checked for vacuum leaks, none found.
While the surging idle is gone, and the car idles comparably normal, it seems to be running rich. Slight black smoke on idle, moderate black smoke puff on rev.
Just ran some seafoam through the crankcase and a little mixed with a 93 octane fuel to try and clean up some carbon, clean the injectors, etc etc...
Anyone know if timing could be an issue? I've had my timing belt replaced within the last 5,000 miles. The smoking only started when the surging idle started.
The car sat for about 8 months, letting it run every few days. I got frustrated with the surging, so I put it on the backburner for a while until I got some funds to knock out some repairs.
Anyone have a clue?
note: getting the oil changed tomorrow using mobil1 synthetic 5w30. Running emissions test after oil change for state inspection (non CA.)
I'll update after e-test.

Hey Ron, thanks mate..
Don't think the thermostat is stuck open, shouldn't I be having overheating issues? as least slightly...
Not throwing any codes... CEL is operational (bulb present/connected)...
Think a timing gun is rentable from a parts store?
I'll check the thermo to make sure and update..
Wasn't able to inspect the vehicle today.. having DMV issues, so tags aren't legal yet..
should in the next week tho.
I'll update then to note what (if) aspects fail the e-test.
