98 Civic LX When Fuel is low
Folks,
Quick question. When my car is very low on fuel, starting it sometimes take a bit longer and at times requires me to pump the accelerator at least once.
If fuel is not low, there are absolutely no problems with starting the car.
I have been thinking about 3 possible issues.
1. Dirty fuel injectors
2. Dirty fuel filter
3. Pressure problems.
Everything in my car is stock. Never changed the fuel filter nor ever added any fuel additives to clean the injectors. My car now has 113,000+ miles on it.
What do you all think? Is this typical behavior when fuel gets very low?

My 97 does the same thing...I've found that if you turn the key to "run" and wait til the dashlights go out then hit the starter then it starts NO problem (unless I've been lazy enough to let the gas go really far, then it sometimes takes a bit of coaxing...but thats my own laziness)
How is your gas milage? any other problems that happen?

thats very typical. I had a friend whos gas gauge was broken in his crx, and he used the hard start as his low fuel warning.
but if youve never changed the fuel filter, then do that, and run some injector cleaner through there. not a bad idea at over 100k, even if its not causing problems yet.

Thank you guys. That's reassuring to know that others experience the same thing. I will hold off on using any additives or replace the fuel filter since it's working fine. I have had no other issues with the car and my mpgs have been good.
sir_bobos,
I wouldn't worry about it. It looks like at least 3 other guys experience the same thing and it appears to be a honda civic qirck. no need to be concerned.
