is there any way to check the fuses in the under hood fuse box to see if there is a blown one associated with the AC?

^Thats why it helps to have a friend nearby. They can press the button on and off every couple of seconds and that'll make the sound very obvious. But if you hear the engine starting to bog down a little bit, there's a good chance that the compressor is working. It does put a noticeable load on the engine.

And yes, but I'm not sure which ones to check. Do you have a multimeter handy?

Ron?

I completely agree. You need a friend. You must get a definitive answer for the question.

If a fuse was blown, the condenser fan would not run, so a blown fuse is an unlikely cause.

so it sounds like.... I'm out of refrigerate? don't get me wrong that would be the best case scenario, but I'm just skeptical because the previous owners said they invested a lot in the AC, but never got it quite right... they could just be dumb....

on a side note: I once bought a Nissan 240sx from a guy and he thought the driver side power window was broken... come to find out when I investigated it before the purchase that he had the window lock on...

okay so I had my girlfriend press the AC button on and off and I did hear a click... but it wasn't "super" loud or anything, acutally it was pretty quiet, but I did hear it, and again the motor did bog a little as usuall when the AC button is engaged.

so does that only leave refrigerant?

If you can get a manifold gauge set, the low- and high-side refrigerant pressures should be 20-36 PSI or 220-295 PSI, respectively, with the car idling in the shade and the A/C ON.

The system may not need a recharge but instead has another problem that can be diagnosed by knowing the high and low side pressure readings.

sure but most people don't know how do do that so that's why i suggested it, but i'd suggest to take it to a mechanic to diagnose it then if you could fix it go for it if not let the mechanic do it
