Default Air Cleaner

Hello. I broke 3 of the 7 plastic seats while attempting to remove the cover of the aircleaner to change the filter. I have a 2001 Civic EX with automatic transmission. Does anyone know how difficult it is to replace the airbox? (I'm sure not difficult for most, but I am mechanically challenged.) How much should I expect to pay at a dealer?

I've seen some aftermarket "racing" aircleaners on the net. Might I be better off going with one of those?

FYI, a gorilla must have screwed the bolts on last time. It may have even been that way from the factory - hard to tell. I had to apply so much force that it spun the metal throught the plastic... Oh well, it is the first real problem I've had.

Thanks for you help.
John

I went to a dealer to get a replacement airbox for a mustang once, and it was $832 just for the plastic airbox. That's when I went out and bought a CAI for it instead for 1/3 of the cost.

You might wanna think about doing the same. Save some cash and let your engine breathe easier.

Whatever you do, you should be able to install it yourself and save a ton of money. You could find someone who just bought a new intake, and now has no use for their factory airbox... and buy it off of them. Or you could get a new intake, go to the Header/Intake/Exhaust forum and read any post there.

Welcome to HCF. You may want to replace it with CAI or SRI like ngot and mxs said. You can do it yourself.
