Default All my lights are stuck on

I know you guys probly get this question all the time, but here it is:

I was driving in my 92 honda civic hatchback today and where my light switch stick connects to my inner part of my ignition area started smoking. Now all my lights are stuck on except my headlights (brake, back lights, and front yellow lights).

My question is, how much is this little box to replace? Is it something I can put in myself with little car mechanic expierence? What is this box called? Do you think I have a short or did the part just go bad?

Thanks,

Mike

i'm not sure how hard it is.
the part probably went bad from possibly an internal short
it's called the "combination switch"

It is called the combination switch. You can definitely replace it yourself. You also might save money by getting a used one from a salvage yard.

Do you have an aftermarket alarm system or other modified wiring? The reason I ask is that ordinarily the brake and reverse lights don't have anything to do with the combination switch.

It's relatively easy to replace the switch, but if you have a driver's air bag in the wheel you have to follow some exact procedures related to it.
