Default alternator belt

i pulled out of the driveway yesterday and when i was about to drive off I saw my alternator belt on the ground, it was snapped in half. Would you guys recommend that i get a new belt and fix it myself or from a mechanic, i have a 93 civic si. And if I do get it done from a mechanic how much will it cost

installing a new belt and adjusting the tension on it is fairly simple if you've got a few wrenches and some patience. I would rather do it myself (I do as much on my car as I possibly can) then pay a mechanic to do it.

It's not hard to do. Loosen the pivot bolt (below the alternator) and the adjuster bolt (the top one). Check that the alternator spins freely and doesn't feel like its sticking or grinding at all. Put the new belt and adjust the tension so that when you press on the belt halfway between the pulleys you've got about 1/2 inch of "give". If you have it too tight you'll burn out the bearings in the alternator

Ya I mean you can search online for an easy DIY and do it yourself it's really not that hard. If you call and ask a mechanic the price will make you drop your jaw!
