Default Another '95 auto tranny problem

Mine's a little different than the '95 EX with the jerky transmission. Mine seems to be having trouble shifting into second, and while there's power from a start, I can't give it any oomph of gas without it revving its brains out before it decides to shift. It'll do this in other gears to, but it's most noticeable in the lower gears. The second gear issue has made getting on the freeway as of late really fun (not). It will also hesitate cruising at 50.

No jerking to speak of, just lots of high revving if I'm not careful with the pedal. If I'm needing acceleration (like pulling out of a driveway onto a busy street, which I do every day), it WILL scoot out unhappily, rev high, shift (revs go down here), then rev up again for a second then all is well. This is with normal "I need to get up to speed" acceleration--I'm not gunning it here. It's got 230k.

I'm really hoping to get a new Fit sometime next year so this car is definitely on the way out. I'm not opposed to taking it in for a flush, but major repairs are not going to happen. It's just not worth it.

Does anyone know what's up and what I should do?

It's an automatic, the clutches are inside the transmission. When it starts slipping under heavy throttle (stays in the same gear, engine revs up but car doesn't go), this usually means the transmission bands/clutches are worn out. It can also be caused by not enough fluid or the wrong type of fluid.

like he said probley slipping there is some stuff at discount auto that you can buy it's a tranny slip stop in a yellow bottle that you can put in your tranny start your car and let it sit and idle for half an hour or more n it should make it to where it wont slip.. Note that this is a tempary fix not a long term.. I did it to a trans that was slipping and it fixed it to where i drove it for about a year then i sold it and i saw it a good 6 or more months after i sold it running around town. this is if it all comes down to it hope it works for you.. a tranny rebuild would cost 1800 - 2000 bucks and a tranny from junk yard be couple hundred bucks

It did get a tranny fluid refill (don't think it was a flush) several years ago but we'll check the fluid level. If that appears to be ok I'll give that slip stop stuff a try. I really only do need to get another year out of this car.
