B18B1 Turns over but won't start
Threw a rod (B18B1) a couple weeks ago. Ordered a new(ish) B18B1 from Apollo Motors out of Chicago. It got here, looked fine, etc. Installed it, everything went as planned. Went to start it up, it just sat there and turned over, didn't start. Here's everything we've checked:
Spark - check
Fuel flow - check (has gas in the cylinder or at least a gas smell on the spark plugs)
Ignition system - changed the distributor from the old engine to the new engine, etc.
Timing - checked
Compression - checked
I may be missing things, but it seems like everything was checked and it still won't start. Any ideas? FYI these were trained mechanics that were performing these checks with their tools and sensors, not just backyard mechanics. They do engine replacements all the time, and they're scratching their heads. If someone has some advice it would be MUCH appreciated. I'm stranded in Arkansas til it gets fixed.....

Check for distributor installed 180 degrees out of time(*), or spark wires in wrong order.
(*) and don't let anyone tell you that's not possible, I've done it myself (on a D15 anyway.)

Definitely check the firing order of the plug wires on the distributor cap and of the fuel injector connectors on the injectors. In addition, some aftermarket distributors can be installed 180-degrees out of phase.
Every one of those has been checked already. Just got off the phone with the mechanic and he said now it'll start but it's out of time, even though the belts and distributor and showing that it should be in time. Doesn't sound good to me. Hoping the engine isn't messed up....
