I'm new to the civic world and I like to be well informed before I start working on my cars. I was wondering what books you would recommend that I buy? I know i should buy the Haynes and Chilton manuals, and eventually I'll buy the helms manual. I was on amazon and found numerous tuner books but i don't know which books would benefit me and which books are junk. I drive a 95 LX A4, not much but I'm planning a "mini-me" head swap soon, and after I get out of school a full engine swap w/ some boost. This site is great and I'm guessing that non-repair manual books are useless when there is a forum like this to search through for info.

 

I dont think you would need any other books other than the ones you just listed, between those books and this forum there is most of, if not all the information you will need. However i found a pretty kool book at an advanced auto parts it a Haynes Xtreme Cusomizing Manual for the Honda Civic. I just bought that because i was curious though.

 

Forget the Haynes and Chilton manuals. They aren't very detailed in some areas. Go to your local dealer and get a Factory Service Manual. This is the manual that dealer techs use to work on the cars. It covers every little thing.

 

I just bought "High Performance Honda Builders Handbook Vol. 1". It describes 1.6L sohc speed secrets, supercharging, head porting, turbos, and other things mainly on engine tuning. It's not really a book for novices but if you want to learn more info about honda engines and how to get the most power out of them it goes into good detail almost every category. The book came out in 1996 but most concepts still apply today, there is also a vol. 2.
