Default Best way to clean inside of transmission housing?

As some may know I am in the process of converting my car from auto->manual.
Long story short, the transmission I bought seems a little dirty in the bell housing (I think thats what its called)
Its the area around the main gear shaft thing (lol) thats sticking out, also the part that mates the pp/clutch/flywheel with the motor.
What kind of solution should I use to clean it?

As its made of aluminum I would guess nothing with any kind of acid in it. Even watered down acids can effect aluminum. So I would guess engine cleaner???

Get 5-6 bottles of brake cleaner (degreaser, gunk gone...), a garden hose with a water connection, and a mask for you.

Spray on some brake clean
Blast it off the gunk with the hose
Repeat until the gunk is gone.

This is bad for Mother Earth, so if you could, do this in a garage with the proper drainage, if you can.

That's dust from the clutch. It's just going to get dirty again. Scrape off any major deposits but it's pointless to clean more than that.

W3rd. Spray some brake cleaner on it, and let it drain into an oil drain pan underneath. The loose stuff will come off and run into the pan. If there's some oily 'runs' or areas of collection, investigate to make sure they're not there because of seepage through the tranny seals.

Otherwise, don't waste too much time on it, like mk378 says.
