Bizzzzare problem
Hi guys, to make it short I will start directly with the problem. My car doesn’t OVERHEAT!!!! And now the explanation. Since I bought the car I noticed that the fan doesn’t kick in neither on heavy traffic nor highway. The temperature needle never went above 1/3. So I started the troubleshooting, I checked the fuses, relays, coolant switch and everything is fine so I decided to replace the thermostat, coolant fan switch and the radiator because it was leaking. After I replaced the thermo, ECT and the rad still no difference…the fan still doesn’t kicks in, so I decided to jump the ECT and do a test with the fan on and with the fan off…30 minutes on highway and after that 30 on heavy traffic..no difference between ON and OFF what I noticed is that on heavy traffic the bottom hose is cold so I can hold it with my hand but on highway both hose were hot…but still why is my car not overheating even so the fan doesn’t kicks in???? Thank you guys and excuse my English. PS I foregot to mention that my car gets to the normal temp in aprox 7 min.
i dont know if this info is relevant but in one of my cars the fan wouldnt come on because there was something in the way. i had to clear the fan's path and then it worked.
my civic is the same tho, temp gauge never goes past 1/3

Ya... i think its a Civic thing, at least on the newer ones, my 1992 would get over 3/4 on a HARD pull up a steep hill, but my 1996 NEVER goes over 1/3 and thats with 25c degree weather today, and driving her hard, still no fan engage. my 1992 would always cycle the fan... this one just does not...
thx for the feedback guys...@celinaroc: my fan is working if i jump the switch....@largen: my civic is from 96 CX hatchback...i guess that i have to stick with this problem..
what bugs me the most is that in the oficial service manul it says that to bleed the air from the engine you have to remove the rad cap and to start your engine until the fan kicks in atleast twice...i can leave it for hours and still dosen't kicks in

mine never kicks in till that temp (on the gauge) goes to about 1/2 then it kicks in and cools it back to about 1/3 ,.........but in the winter on cold days it never would kick in,.....but one thing i did was bleed the coolant system to see it that would make a difference and it did not ,........just my .02,....................good luck
and I also bled the air from the cooling engine
Did you bleed as instructed in the service manual. Many also do this procedure incorrectly.
I'm sorry for the confusion. I replaced the ECT switch and I tested the ECT sensor. The sensor is ok and it doesn't behave abnormal.
And for the bleding part I did as they say in the book.
I filed up the rad with coolant and I started the engine without putting the cap on. I let it run for about 15-20 minutes. In the book it says to leave it run until the fan kicks in twice. But I can leave my car to run for hours and the fan still doesn't kicks in.
