bolt on cylindar head broke and now I have a gas leak
Someone must have used a power tool when puttingon the valve cover to my cylindar head. My mechanic showed me a piece that has chipped off and because of that, the valve cover is not airtight and I have a gas leak. He says that its not going to get better, it will get worse and I have to deal with it.
The only solution he can think of is to find a replacement for just that part of the head that has the bolt, and switch it for mine. The other option is to change the entire cylindar head. My car is a 93 civic and it has 104,000 miles as well asa kickin sound system, for me it would be heartbreaking to get rid of my car for this reason, at the same time, I really don't have 2,000 dollars to spend of parts and labor to replace the head. Can anyone offer any suggestions. I discussed the idea of a poxy to create an airtight connection on the valve cover but my mechanic said that then I would never be able to take the cover off.
Someone please help me!!!

no gas leak.
so the stud that the wing nut goes on is broken off.
broken off flush with the head.
drill a small hole and use easy-out.
the easy-out will tell you what size bit to use

You mean the bolt outlined in green here?
The bolt that holds on your valve cover (I understand you have a different engine). I have the same problem, but mine is sealed with hondabond (a liquid gasket) and it works perfectly, although I'll be getting it fixed as soon as I can.

RE: bolt on cylindar head broke and now I have a gas leak
"got a pick of the bolt? if its a manifold bolt those things are cake to fix"
its the part of the cylinder that is broken. The bolt is not the issue , there is nothing left of the
receptacle that the bolt goes in someone torqued it and cracked the bolt receptacle. The bolt comes down thru the gasket
but since it can't close tight on that side of the gasket the oil leaks out . The manifold is below the cylinder and not the issue.
any ideas anyone ? buying a new head seems too much,
Carlz0r yes thats like it , but its a differnt gasket so there a 5 bolts not the 6 you have there but...yes.
