Default Brake Light Diagnosis

Just recently, I was pulled over for having a driver's side brake light, which doesn't seem to be working properly. From what it appears, the brake light on that side of the car, doesn't seem to activate whenever the brakes are tapped. I've been aware of it for awhile now and have attempted to fix it with a new bulb; but still, that doesn't appear to be the problem.

Presently, I am seeking suggestions as to what the problem might be along with how to diagnosis it. Could this be a faulty brake light switch or a short in the wire? How do I find out? Thank You.

Check whether the bulb receptacle gets voltage when the pedal is pushed down. If so, you have a ground wire or receptacle problem.

As you seem to be saying the brake light on the other side works, the switch is OK. The problem must be the bulb, the socket, or the wiring in the trunk.
