Default A/C compressor or panel switch?

A/C compressor kicks-in when engine is cold. Good freon pressure,no leaks. After about 15-20 min. clutch disengages and wont turn back on. I jump started the low pressure switch but compressor wont kick-in. Whoever, after compressor cools down (about 1/2 hour later) I turn a/c switch back on and magically it works for another 15 minutes before disengaging.
One mechanic told me is the on/off switch, other claims is the clutch.
Does anyone knows any simple testing for this?

Thanks

What year Civic?

If the green light in the A/C button turns off, then the heater control panel might be bad. If it remains on, check the gap between armature plate and pulley of the compressor.

Almost certainly it's the clutch gap. Check that the clutch wire is getting power when it is supposed to be on. The gap can be adjusted (with the refrigerant still charged) by removing shim washers from the shaft behind the clutch plate. The compressor may need to be unbolted from the engine to have access to the clutch. Do not disconnect the hoses though.

Pardon my ignorance but by "getting power" you mean current? What does power has to do with gap adjustment? Where can I get shim washers? how much gap should I give?

RonJ:
Civic is a 95 LX 1.5 A/T. control panel light remains ON when compressor quit. Its only after a cool down period when the compressor kick back in.

You don't need to buy any new shim washers. You're going to take some out and leave them out. If the gap is larger than specified, go ahead and adjust it, and if that doesn't solve the problem then you'd proceed to electrical tests.
