my wife has a 98 civic ex and about littl while a go she whent to the store and when she got ot he diver side door wouldnt open. Iv tryed everything i know and cant get it to work. I think the lock is not disengageing. I dont know what to do iv alwaysed worked on older honda,s. Can some one please help i dont have the money to take it to a shop andwe both love that car very much. It has 156000 mi on it and still runs great. She got it new of the lot in 98 for her 16th birth day its the only car shes ever had.

 

hummm i think the only way your going to fix it or figer out the problem is ,is taking off the door panel..and thats going to be pretty hard to do without getting the door open unless you can take the screws out wile its closed

Even with the door open some clips can be a pain if you don't have the correct tools. Does the handle feel different than before? does it have power locks?

 

You can try locking and unlocking the door from the inside with the **** while pulling on the inside door handle....possible the locking mechanism is just sticking...I had that happen on some honda's before and that has worked. If the handle feels different (no resistance) the rod is probably off and it either popped out or the clip broke....or the rod for the door lock itself has come off or the clip for it has broken. If messing with it from the inside does not work I suggest either taking it to the dealer or a local body shop should be able to fit it.

 

the handel feels the same and yes it has power locks and when i use the power locke it keeps makeing a sound for a few sec. The rodes are still on because i un scrwed the handel on the inside and traced it. I took it to 2 shopes and they said they dont know what the problem is and that it may take meany hours to fix at $40 an hour.

 

i got the panel off well mostly it wasnt easy. I cant see any thing wrong every thing is moving i dont get why it wount open. Any one know how i can get the lock to disengage if that is the problem.

You said it is making a noise when you hit the locks...sounds like it's hung up...can you see the lock rod move when you hit the button? also did you try that thing where you pull the door handle while hitting the unlock botton? This is bothering me becuase my girls 98 accord had a similar problem. I would always have to go in the passenger door pull on the door handle while lifting up on the lock ****.....hope you figure it out man. [&o]

 

if u got yer door panel off, u mite be able to reach in wth a skinny pry bar (or something similar) and just manually pryin the latch for the door up, an pushin it open... hard to really explain what i'm talkin about lol....not an easy task either but from there u mite be able to figure something out. that sucks tho man a perfectly good car becomes a pain in hte *** due to a door....hope u get it fixed up...

 

everything looks fine?? when you get someone pulling on the outside panel everything works?..thats weard, i had the same problem in a old car a little piece of plastic thing was broken but you could notice it..anything frozen??, can you try and pull up the latch so you can get the door open and see if its the latch is seezed or somthing?
