Car dying
My 98 Civix CX, manual transmission had the same problem. My fix was a new ignition switch. I bought a new one on Amazon with a lifetime warranty for $30. There was a recall for 98 Civics in 2002 to replace the ignition switch. I had mine replaced at that time but eventually the replacement switch failed, too.
Replacing the switch is an easy job. Disconnect the battery. Take the steering column shroud off, then unscrew the ignition switch. Unplug the two plugs that are at the ends of the ignition switch wire bundles. Carefully remove the additional two smaller gauge blue wires that lead into one of the plugs. (Be sure to unlock the white plastic locking piece before pulling out the two wires so that you don't deform the terminals.) Reverse the procedure to install the new ignition switch.
