Car making a winding noise

Default Car making a winding noise

Hey ive got a 1998 honda civic lx and when there is a winding sound when i take off and even when i just idle. Just wondering if anyone has had the same problem so i could get some info and fix it

is it a manual? does it go away when the clutch is depressed? because it could be the clutch release bearing(throw out bearing) if the answer to those wuestions is yes

Open the hood and listen as it idles. Is the noise coming from the belts and stuff on the driver's side of the engine, or the transmission area on the other side?

From what you vaguely described, it sounds like your alternator. I had the same problem with my civic.

it is a manual, the noise does go away when i press in the clutch and i did open the hood and it sounds like more towards the belts...thanks ill see what i can figure out

definatly the throw out bearing my 93 does it too im not lookin forward to fixin it
